There are a couple ways to select items. 

You can select them Individually by hovering over each item and checking the box in the upper-left hand corner as shown below. Or...

Once you've selected at least one item, you can then select all items in an area or all items in a project by checking on the action boxes as shown below. 

You can now export these items or change their status all at once.
