Fix a Google Sheets Export That Won't Generate

Reset the Google connection and check your browser and Drive settings when a Google Sheets export doesn't finish.

Written by Scottie Elliott

If you complete the Google connection steps but your Google Sheets export never appears, something is usually blocking the handoff between your browser and Google Drive. Work through these fixes in order. Most issues are solved by the first two.

Allow Pop-Ups and Cookies for Gather

Gather connects to Google in a pop-up window, then opens Google's Drive folder picker. If your browser blocks pop-ups or third-party cookies for Gather, the export can look connected but never generate.

  1. In your browser's settings, allow pop-ups for go.gatherit.co.

  2. Allow third-party cookies for go.gatherit.co.

  3. Refresh Gather and try the export again.

Reset the Google Connection

If the connection between Gather and your Google account was interrupted, a fresh connection usually fixes it. This is especially likely if your teammates can export and you can't.

  1. Go to your Google account's Third-party apps & services page.

  2. Find Gather and remove its access.

  3. Return to Gather and start the export again.

  4. When Google asks, grant Gather permission again.

Check Your Browser and Google Login

  • Sign in to one Google account: if you're signed in to more than one (for example, work and personal), sign out of all but the one you want to export to.

  • Clear your cache and cookies: old session data can block the transfer.

  • Try a different browser or a new Chrome profile: this quickly shows whether an extension or a browser setting is the cause. Avoid incognito mode, which blocks the cookies Google needs.

Check Your Drive Folder and Storage

  • Export to My Drive first: choose a simple folder in your personal My Drive to rule out folder permission issues.

  • Shared drives need edit access: to export to a shared drive, you need Contributor access or higher. Being able to view the folder isn't enough.

  • Check your storage: if your Google Drive is full, Google won't save the new spreadsheet.

What to check

None of these fixes work on a work Google account

Your company's Google Workspace admin may block outside apps from accessing Drive. Ask them whether Gather is allowed.

The export still won't generate
