When This Issue Occurs
You may encounter image clipping problems when:
The website has recently updated its image files.
Images are in a format not compatible with the Clipper.
The website is blocking third-party access to images.
Multiple items on the same website fail to clip properly.
Workaround Solution
If you receive an error message when trying to clip an image, follow these steps:
Step 1: Use "Clip to Primary Image"
Right-click on the image you want to clip.
From the drop-down menu, select Gather and then "Clip to primary image".
Step 2: Delete and Save
Delete the image from the clipper window by hovering your mouse over the image and clicking the garbage can icon.
Fill in all your item information (title, description, etc.).
Click the red Save to Gather button and then click the X in the upper right hand corner of the Clipper Tool to exit the clipper.
At this point, your item will be saved with all the data you entered, but without the image.
Step 3: Manually Add the Image
Go back to the website with the original image.
Right-click on the image.
Select "Copy image address" from the menu.
Return to your saved item in Gather.
Click Edit on the item.
Look for the "Link" option in the image upload area.
Paste the copied image URL into the URL field.
Click the blue Upload link button to the right of the URL.
Alternative Option
If the workaround doesn't work, you can always add items manually to Gather by copying and pasting the information directly, though this is more time-consuming than using the Clipper tool.
Reporting Issues
If you encounter websites with persistent image clipping issues, please report them to the Gather support team. The team maintains a list of problematic sites and periodically works to resolve compatibility issues.
Note: While this workaround requires a few extra steps, it allows you to successfully save items from websites that have image clipping restrictions.
