Screen Appears Cut Off or Zoomed In
If parts of your Gather screen appear cut off, overlapping, or zoomed in — for example, if buttons at the bottom of a page are hidden or the top of the screen is clipped — the issue is almost always related to your browser zoom level or your computer's display scaling settings.
This is not a bug in Gather. It's a display setting on your computer or browser that affects how all websites appear. The good news is it's easy to fix!
What It Looks Like
You might notice:
Page headers or navigation are partially hidden at the top of the screen
Buttons like "Save" or "Cancel" are cut off at the bottom
Content feels cramped or overlapping
Settings pages or modals don't fit on your screen
How to Fix It
Option 1: Reset Your Browser Zoom (Quickest Fix)
Your browser may be set to a zoom level higher than 100%, which makes everything on the page appear larger than intended.
On a PC: Press Ctrl + 0 (zero) to reset your browser zoom to 100%
On a Mac: Press Cmd + 0 (zero) to reset your browser zoom to 100%
If 100% still feels too large, try zooming out slightly:
On a PC: Press Ctrl + - (minus) to zoom out
On a Mac: Press Cmd + - (minus) to zoom out
Many users find that 80–90% works best for their screen size.
Tip: You can also check your current zoom level by looking at the magnifying glass icon in Chrome's address bar. If your zoom is anything other than 100%, you'll see a percentage displayed there.
Option 2: Check Your Browser's Default Zoom Setting
Browsers like Chrome and Edge have a global default zoom setting that affects all websites. If this was changed from 100%, it could be causing the issue.
In Google Chrome:
Click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the upper-right corner of Chrome
Go to Settings
Click Appearance in the left sidebar
Find Page Zoom and set it to 100% (or lower if needed)
In Microsoft Edge:
Click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the upper-right corner of Edge
Go to Settings
Click Appearance in the left sidebar
Find Page Zoom and set it to 100%
Option 3: Check Your Display Scaling (Windows)
Windows computers often have display scaling set above 100%, especially on laptops with high-resolution screens. This can make web content appear larger than expected.
Right-click on your desktop and select Display settings
Under Scale & layout, find Scale
If it's set to 125% or 150%, try lowering it to 100%
Note: Changing your display scaling affects everything on your screen, not just Gather. If you prefer to keep your scaling higher, adjusting just your browser zoom (Options 1 or 2) is a better approach.
Why Does This Happen?
This is a common issue with web applications, not specific to Gather. It happens because:
Browsers remember zoom settings per website — you may have accidentally zoomed in at some point
Windows display scaling is often set to 125% or 150% by default on newer laptops
Different monitors and screen sizes display web content at different scales
If you're seeing this issue on one computer but not another, it's because the zoom or display scaling settings are different between the two machines.
