Use the Clipper to complete product details or replace a product within an existing project item.
Note: Updating existing items is available in eligible projects. It is not available in legacy projects. If the action is missing, check your project workflow or contact Gather support.
Archived items, locked items and items that belong to an order cannot be updated through this flow. Some item statuses also prevent replacement.
Start From an Item in Gather
Open the existing item or placeholder on your project's Product Board.
Select Update with Clipper from the item's actions.
Select Actions, then Update with Clipper.
Choose Update to complete or correct the existing product's details, or Replace to source a different product. Select Continue.
Choose Update for existing product details, or Replace for a different product.
When you see Clipper is ready, open the Clipper on the product page:
For Update, use the saved product page that opens in a new tab.
For Replace, navigate to the product page you want to use, then open the Clipper.
Check that the Clipper is updating the intended item, then follow Review And Save below.
If the item has no saved product page, such as a new Budget placeholder, choose Replace. Update requires a saved product page.
Start From The Clipper
Open the product page you want to use, then open the Clipper.
Under Save To, select the project containing the existing item.
Select Update existing item beside Save To. In a narrow Clipper panel, this link may appear as Update existing….
Select Update existing item beside Save To.
Choose Update to complete or correct product details, or Replace to use a different product. Select Continue.
Find the existing item in the picker. Use Search items if needed, then select the item.
Confirm the intended item is shown in the Clipper, then follow Review and Save below.
Review and Save
Review the captured details, pricing, images and attachments. Correct any information that did not capture accurately.
Select Save to Gather to open Review changes, then compare the proposed changes with the existing item.
For a replacement, review any approval-reset confirmation and check that the retained notes still apply to the new product.
Select Save to Gather again to confirm.
Wait for the completion message, then open the project and check the updated item.
Some fields are read-only in Update mode because they retain the item's existing project or commercial settings. Choose the mode that matches the change you need; do not assume every existing field will be overwritten.
If the Clipper reports ITEM UPDATED WITH ISSUES, review the listed attachment failures. The item may have saved even though an attachment did not.
Check Your Working Budget
If the item is linked to a Working Budget, return to Budgets and review the current product pricing. Updating that product does not rewrite the Preliminary Snapshot.
Troubleshooting
Problem | What to check |
Update existing is unavailable | Select an eligible project and check your plan and project workflow. Client accounts cannot update existing items through the Clipper. |
The item cannot be updated | Check whether it is archived, locked or attached to an order. |
Replace is unavailable | Check the item's current status and the reason shown by the Clipper. |
A field cannot be edited | Review whether Update or Replace is appropriate for the change. |
An attachment failed | Check the saved item and retry the missing attachment rather than assuming the entire update failed. |
