The Clipper is a Chrome extension that saves a product from a supplier's website straight into a Gather project. This article walks through clipping one product, from opening the Clipper to finding the new item in your project.
You'll need the Clipper installed in Chrome and to be signed in to Gather. See Installing the Clipper Tool.
Open the Clipper
Go to the product page on the supplier's website.
Click the Gather icon in your Chrome toolbar. The Clipper opens on the right side of the page.
The Clipper reads the page and fills in the main photo and the product name. If the supplier's website is already linked to a supplier in your Contacts, the supplier fills in too.
š” To choose which other details the Clipper fills in, like price or dimensions, open the three-dot menu and select Settings. See Customize Your Clipper Tool Settings.
Choose Where the Product Goes
Under Save To, choose the Project.
Choose the Area the product is for, or choose a Vision Board instead.
Under Categorize, choose the Schedule and Type. The Type's custom fields then show up under Specifications.
(Optional) Set the Status.
Add Photos
Select Add Images.
Keep the selected main photo, or pick a different one, then select Add Primary Image.
Choose up to 8 more photos, like a close-up or a room shot, then select Add Secondary Images.
š” To crop or edit a photo, or capture part of the page, see How to Edit Images in the Clipper and How to Capture Images with the Clipper.
Fill In the Details
Under Specifications, enter a Name. Use a general, client-facing name like
Lobby Pendant. The supplier's name for the product stays in Product Name.To fill in a detail from the page, highlight the text on the page, then choose the field from the Clip to Field menu. The menu includes the custom fields for the Type you chose.
(Optional) Type in any other details.
Check the Pricing
When you choose a project, the markup, sales tax, and shipping fill in from that project's settings, so the Unit Price and Total are calculated for you. If the price didn't fill in, highlight it on the page and choose Price from the Clip to Field menu.
Save Attachments
Under Attachments, tick any spec sheets or other files you want saved with the item.
Save to Gather
Select Save to Gather.
When you see SAVED!, select Open Project to find the item in your project, or Clip Next Item to clip another product.
Good to Know
Required fields: the Clipper saves once Project, Name, Product Name, and an Area or Vision Board are filled in.
Supplier and manufacturer pricing: if your company calculates discounts and markups by supplier or manufacturer, the Clipper uses that contact's discount and markup. Sales tax and shipping still come from the project.
Already in your project? You can update or replace an existing item from the Clipper instead of adding a new one. See Update Existing Items with the Clipper.
