Share your preliminary budget with your client when you are ready for them to see it.
Costs stay private until you choose to share them, and you can preview exactly what your client will see before they do. Budgets are available on the Core Plus plan.
Step 1: Choose What Your Client Can See
Open your project's Budgets tab. Each view has an eye icon at the top right, above the table. The views are Items, Additional Costs and Design Fees.
A crossed-out eye means that part of the budget is hidden from your client. This is the default for every part of a new budget.
A green eye means it is visible to your client.
Select the eye to turn it green. To change views, select Display Options and choose Additional Costs or Design Fees, then select that view's eye. Select a green eye again to hide that part from your client.
Step 2: Preview Your Client's View
Turn on Client Test Mode at the top right of the project. It simulates what your client will see when you share with them. You see a Budget Estimate page with a tab for each part you have shared:
Items: your items grouped by area, each with a quantity and a price, and a subtotal for each area.
Additional Costs and Design Fees: shown only if you turned their eyes green.
Summary: the totals for each shared part and a grand total.
Turn Client Test Mode off when you are done. It is a preview only and does not change what your client can see.
Step 3: Send a Copy
To send your budget outside Gather, select Export and choose Budget PDF or Budget Spreadsheet.
What Your Client Sees
By default, your client sees only the preliminary estimate you shared, not your Working Budget prices. When you move to the Working Budget, you can choose Show your client the Working Budget in the Move to Working Budget dialog, and your client then sees the Working Budget alongside the preliminary budget. Your client also sees item prices on the product board. See Client Settings to choose which item details they see there.
Troubleshooting
Problem | What to check |
My client cannot see the budget | Open that view and check that its eye is green. A crossed-out eye means it is hidden. |
I do not see a tab in Client Test Mode | Tabs appear only for the parts you have shared. Turn the eye green for that view. |
I do not see the Client Test Mode switch | It sits at the top right of the project, next to the Settings gear. |
