Adding Fields to a Single Type

Learn how to add a field that only one Type needs, and how to reorder or turn off fields.

Written by Scottie Elliott

Fields in Gather live at three levels: common fields for all Schedules (every product has them), fields for all Types in one Schedule, and fields for a single Type. Add a field to a single Type when only that Type needs it. For example, pendant shades come in different materials, so the Pendant Type gets a Shade Material field.

💡If several Types in the same Schedule need the field, add it once to the Schedule instead. See Adding Common Fields to Types.

Only account Owners and Super Admins can change classification.

Add a field to a Type

Step 1: Click the "Account" menu in the bottom left corner of the screen and select "Settings".

Step 2: Select "Classification", then the "Categories" tab.

Step 3: Click the Schedule, for example Lighting.

Step 4: Click the Type, for example Pendant. Its fields panel opens and shows all three levels: the common fields for all Schedules, the fields for the Schedule, and the fields for this Type.

Step 5: Click the + sign next to the Type's fields heading, for example "Pendant Fields".

Step 6: Enter a Field Name and choose a Field Type. For Options, type each choice and press Enter after each one. You can also set a Default Value, which you can change on any product.

Step 7: Click "Save".

Field types: Single Line Text, Multiline Text, Number, True or False, Options, Number and Unit, and Dimensions.

Reorder or turn off fields

  • Reorder: drag a field by its handle on the left. The order carries into your exports.

  • Turn off: click the toggle next to a field you don't use. It disappears from your products without losing anything already entered, and you can turn it back on at any time.
