Gather uses MCP (Model Context Protocol) to securely connect your Gather account to supported AI assistants.
What is MCP?
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It is a standard that allows AI assistants to connect to services like Gather and use the information and actions they provide.
You do not need to understand MCP, write code, or configure an API to use Gather with a supported AI assistant.
Once connected, you can work with Gather using everyday language.
What can I do with Gather through an AI assistant?
Depending on your Gather plan, permissions, and the AI assistant you use, you can ask your assistant to:
Find information about projects, areas, items, contacts, vendors, and other Gather records.
Review item details, statuses, history, purchase orders, payments, shipments, and deliveries.
Analyze information across projects or records.
Review budget and purchasing information available through your Gather plan.
Create or update supported information in Gather.
For examples of questions and actions you can try, see What can I do with Gather in ChatGPT or Claude?
Which Gather plans include MCP access?
Gather MCP access is available on Core and Core Plus plans.
The specific information and actions available also depend on:
your Gather user role and permissions
the features available in the project you are working with
the actions supported by your AI assistant
Connecting Gather does not give the assistant access to anything your Gather account could not already access.
How does access work?
When you connect Gather to an AI assistant, you sign in directly to Gather and choose the Gather company you want to connect.
The connection uses your existing Gather account and permissions. Your Gather password is not shared with the AI assistant.
If you belong to multiple Gather companies, each company is connected separately.
What happens when the assistant makes a change?
Reading or analyzing Gather information does not change your data.
Some supported actions can create, update, move, or delete information in Gather.
Your AI assistant controls how confirmations and approvals are presented. Depending on the assistant and your permission settings, you may be asked to review or approve an action before it is performed.
For important changes, especially deletions or bulk updates, review the action carefully before approving it.
What doesn't the Gather connection do?
There are a few important limits to keep in mind:
It does not run continuously in the background. Your assistant retrieves Gather information when you ask it to.
It does not bypass Gather permissions. Your assistant can only access information available to your connected Gather account.
It does not unlock features that are not included in your Gather plan or project.
It does not email purchase orders to vendors. Purchase orders still need to be sent from Gather.
Not every action available in Gather is necessarily available through MCP.
What happens to my data?
When your AI assistant retrieves information from Gather, that information becomes part of your conversation with the AI provider.
How that conversation and its data are stored or used is determined by the AI provider, your account type, and your privacy or workspace settings.
If your company has specific privacy, security, or data-retention requirements, review the AI provider's policies and workspace controls before connecting Gather.
